Hey All,
Just finished the presentation on interview skills. I believe this is the last of our three presentations on getting a job. (The other two being Resume Writing and Job Search Skills.) You can find the presentation here. Please let me know about any glaring errors or ways it can be improved.
Thanks,
Rachel

Checking out the Wii Remotes
Hello All,
The Wii remotes and games have now been barcoded. As such the remotes and games must be checked out to the patron when they want to use them. The process to do this is the same as checking out any other materials except for one thing. There will be a message that pops up saying "Item is for Library Use Only" - you must override this in order to check it out to the patron. If you are signed into MilCirc simply click on "Override". If you are not signed in please enter in your initials and your password, then click on "Override" to proceed. The 3M machine is not really necessary as the items do not have a security strip installed. The games can be scanned using the machine if desired and magnetized/demagnetized if wanted. The remotes should not be however. The same thirty minute time limit applies and we must walk the game over and place it into the Wii. Please do not simply hand the game to the patron! While the patron is using the Wii Remotes and games we will hold their library card at the desk.
Once the patron is done with the remotes and games please check it back in so that the next patron can use it. The patrons will not receive fines if they exceed the 30 minute time limit. So please let it be known that as of this posting, we are no longer accepting items in exchange for the Wii Remotes. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
James

Server Crash
Hello All,
The server crashed on Tuesday night at 6:00 ish. The same thing happened last week at around the same time. I first heard something beeping and traced it back to the server room, I went to go check it and noticed that the UPS was beeping and indicated that it was running off of the battery backup. I reset the server and waited for it to come back up. It never did. I reset it once again and waited until it finally came up again and started working. After about five minutes it kicked itself off again and reset itself, this time there was a steady beep coming from the UPS. After that there were no further problems. Please keep an ear out for any beeping coming from the server room as this may become a more frequent problem.
Thanks,
James

Wii Remotes and Games
Hello All,
I believe some clarification is needed as to how we check out the Wii Remotes and games. As it stands now we are still checking out the Wii remotes to the patrons in exchange for some type of collateral (it has to be something of value that the kids would want back). As far as the games are concerned, we are only allowing the kids to use the game that is currently in the Wii. Once we get barcodes for the new games we will check them out to the kids on their library cards, the remotes as well. Once we begin to check out the remotes and games, the patrons will be required to have a library card! If there are any questions please feel free to ask me.
Thanks,
James

Citizenship Classes
Hello All,
We are having two series of citizenship classes going on simultaneously here at Southwest. In addition to the normally scheduled evening classes, we will also be providing classes on Saturdays from 2:00-4:00 pm (thus replacing our second computer class). The evening classes are intended to offer help to those individuals that applied prior to the 1st of October. The Saturday classes are strictly for those who applied after that date. The two classes are different and we will not cover the same materials. Thus, if a person asks about Citizenship classes you must ask them the following prior to telling them when their classes are:
- When did you apply?
- Was it after October 1, 2008?
If you are unclear on what is done in the Citizenship classes please refer to the Citizenship blog or feel free to ask me.
Thanks,
James
