SirsiDynix Symphony software upgrade to Service Pack 5

Dear staff, please review the Sirsi update messages from Judith. Christy

There will be a SirsiDynix Symphony software  upgrade to Service Pack 5 on Tuesday, October 21st beginning at 10:00 PM Central Time.   The upgrade will last until approximately 2:00 AM.  Searches may work in the Enterprise catalog while the system is down, but customers will not be able to place holds or reach their accounts during that time.

All workstations that have the Workflows software will need to be upgraded before the libraries open on Wednesday, October 22nd.  We will upgrade the clients remotely.  All computers with a Workflows client should be left ON when you leave the library on October 21st so staff in IT can push out the upgrade.  We recommend that you bring up your Workflows clients  before the library opens on the 22nd to verify that there are no issues.  If you have any issues with your computer, please contact the our helpdesk at 832-393-1570.

If you have any questions concerning the upgrade, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Judith

Laptop Checkout Reminder

From Fred Schumacher, 4:54PM:
From time to time it is a good idea to review requirements that are in place for some of the services we provide. I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone of the requirements for checking out laptops (PCDs) to Houston Public Library customers:
   · Customers wishing to check out a PCD must have a library card that is at least 30 days old, and the library card must be in good standing, with no fines, fees or blocks on it.
   · The customer must complete and sign a Laptop and Tablet Computer Circulating Guidelines Application for each PCD check out.
   · The customer must present his/her own library card and a valid photo ID (current/unexpired government or social services issued ID), which we will hold with the completed, signed agreement form until the PCD is returned. Customers under 18 who have parental permission to borrow PCDs may use parent’s ID in lieu of their own.
   · Only one PCD may be checked out to a customer on his/her library card at a time.
The requirements are printed on each Laptop and Tablet Computer Circulating Guidelines Application and apply to all PCD check outs for all Houston Public Library customers.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about the requirements for checking out a PCD, you may contact Circulation Administration at 832-393-2222 (option 3). We will be happy to assist you in any way we are able.

CMC contribution - 100 % participation WAL/ SWX

Hi all,

I am glad to be the CMC coordinator for WAL/ SWX library group again this year.

In the past years, we had 100% participation, thanks all for your contribution. As you have known that our group libraries are aiming for 100% participation this year, and we will have a Pizzza Party.:D

Some information for your reference, please let me know if you have any questions. If you have already sent in your contribution, please let me know. I appreciated your prompt action as always.

* The CMC website is: http://www.cohemployeenews.com/home-cmc

* This year, HPL’s goal is to raise $48,000 and our participation goal is 95%.

* How do we count participation? Employees can participate in 3 ways:

* Contribute to an agency through paycheck deduction via ESS, or by filling out the paper form

* Help with a fundraiser

* Volunteer your time for an organization on the agency list

*  Units with 100% participation will get a pizza party. As coordinator, I am responsible for tracking participation. We work on the honor system-when someone contributes, you tell me or email me, I mark down that they participated. I don’t need to know how much you contributed, or who you contributed to. If you choose to volunteer their time instead of contributing money, that also counts as participation.

* CMC runs from October 1st-October 31st. I would encourage you to donate through ESS online, instead of filling out a paper form. There are directions for how to make a donation on the CMC website under the Donate tab. It is much easier to donate online than it is to do the paper form. If someone still elects to do a paper form with a check or money order contribution, please contact me to let me know. Make sure the paper form is filled out in full, and the agency number they wish to donate to is on the memo line of the check/money order. Sara Pope will enter them in a special way.
