Special Patron Attention

Hey Guys,

As you know we have had a few incidents recently with a specific patron and her children. We have already spoken to the patron (Patrick's mother) and let her know that her younger children cannot be in the library unsupervised. By this I mean with out her supervision. The children must be near her at all times (for example: the children cannot be running in the children's area while she is sitting on the couch in the adult area). The incident that sparked this involved her youngest child defecating on the couch. We would like to prevent any future incidents.

If this persists, we will be forced to ban her from the library until she agrees to more closely monitor her children. I have already warned her about it, so she is aware of the situation.

Thanks,
Jennifer C.

Please review the following policy and procedures regarding Library Security, before suspending a customer from the library. You MUST provide an incident report documenting the proper implementation of procedures. An incident report should be completed by the staff involved in the incident and emailed to the manager and Edward.

New Security Policy

Hello All,

The policy for unattended children has been changed to the following:

- New policy states that children between the ages of seven years old and fourteen years old should not be left unattended and/or unsupervised for more than one hour or at closing time.

Also, the current policy does not discuss children who are at our libraries during school hours. The new policy addresses it by stating:

- New policy states that the City of Houston curfew for minors 17 and under is between the hours of 9 am - 2:30 pm on a weekday. The Houston Police Department or the Harris County Constable will be contacted when unaccompanied minors are in the library during this curfew time. (City of Houston Ordinance, Chapter 28, Article 5, Section 28 171-175)

Thanks,
James

LibSat Online Survey

For the month of April, please encourage customers every Thursday to complete the LibSat online survey and when possible, staff should distribute the survey bookmarks to customers. I appreciate all of your efforts in promoting this important survey. Please note that along with the survey, your customers are submitting wonderful comments about your library!

“This Express library is one of the amazing concepts & we need more of these libraries in Houston. The free computer classes are really helpful for this community.”

Thanks.

Copier Status

A technician from OCE came today to look at the copier's print quality, which a patron had reported as poor. The tech said that he would put in a recommendation to replace the image drum, because he thinks it's going out.

So, printouts will continue looking faded on one side until further notice.

Visitors Count

Hi everyone,

We will add "visitors count" to the library monthly statistics. To make it's simple, I add two columns to the online statistics spreadsheet.

Every morning, a person who open the door will record the P number from the 3M gate onto the Statistics spreadsheet.

Test day for daily count will be Tuesday, March 24th. Daily counts will begin on Wednesday, April 1st.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Thuy

In Case You're Interested

And at these low, low prices, who wouldn't be, right? You can buy flash drives at Microcenter for a song. I bought mine, 8gb of storage with stunning emerald green finish, for $17 American. Even I've got that kinda dough.

Like I said, in case you're interested.

Thank You For Helping a Struggling Student

Hey You Guys,

First of all, these videos serve a couple of purposes. They're part of a class project, but they might also serve as customer service videos. Might.

Second of all, thanks. You all helped me out tremendously; plus, shooting the videos was a load of fun. For me, anyway. I hope so for you, too. My anticipated A belongs as much to you as it does to me. I dedicate my grade to you. Awwwwwwwww, *sniff*

Without much further adieu, the videos:

Call this one "Goofus." Favorite bits of dialog:

- "Somebody stole her phone."
- "Oh no."
- "Who did you have to pay off for that degree?" To utilize another choice bit of dialog, "That's really none of your business!"

Basta! "Goofus":

And "Gallant":

Originally, I thought I'd have to cut out the Supertramp line, a line I came up with during the drive to SW as I was listening to Supertramp. Thanks to the magic of Youtube's annotation tool, the line remains intact.

Again, thanks!

Don.

You, Too, Can Help a Struggling Student

I'm planning to make a short customer-service film to use as part of a class project. Would anyone like to volunteer? I assure that this will be fun, not laborious. Let me know.
