Resuming Overdue Notifications

HALAN will resume sending out overdue notices starting tonight. These include the following:

·         3 day predue

·         3 day overdue

·         14 day overdue

·         30 day bill notice

Notices were suppressed last month due to the hurricane. This will serve as a reminder to our customers so you will see an increase in phone calls and emails about overdue, returned and damaged items.

Please remind customers that:

·         Fines have been waived through November 27, 2017

·         Customers may return flood damaged items at an HPL location (that’s open)

·         Staff should already know the procedures (a prior email included this information) and customers shouldn’t be charged for these items

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, we will continue to provide stable and consistent access to our customer across the city for an extended period. Beginning Monday, September 25 through Wednesday, November 22, we will have 32 locations open with consistent hours.

Fifth Ward and Blue Ridge will follow their regular hours pre-Hurricane Harvey

All closed locations will receive an updated closed sign, listing open locations, to post on the library’s doors. Remaining open locations will receive a door sign with new temporary hours. The following locations will be unable to unable to open in 2017. Environmental remediation work has started at the Kendall Library, and it remains off-limits to all staff for safety reasons until further notice. A press release and an eBlast will be published on Monday, September 25 to notify the public about our open and closed locations. Dixon Flores Kendall Lakewood McGovern-Stella Link Meyer McCrane-Kashmere Gardens Extension of Due Dates | Waiver Fees and Fees Book due dates for books checked out pre-Hurricane Harvey were extended and will end on September 29, 2017. To further help our fellow neighbors and friends as they recover from Hurricane Harvey, we have waived all overdue fines till November 27, 2017.
