What to do when clients bring items from shelves for check out that are still checked out to other patrons:
1) Stop the check out procedure. DO NOT CHECK OUT ITEM TO CURRENT PATRON YET when you get the Mil-Circ warning.
2) Go to Check-In. Check in item, and write down the full name of the client the item was checked out to originally.
3) Go back to Circulation Desk in Mil-Circ and open patron's record (the patron whose items are still checked out but are on the shelf). Check to see if any other items are due soon or overdue and print out list. Waive any fines accrued for items found on shelf. Insert a note into patron's record explaining that fines were waived because item(s) was (were) on shelf. Initial notes.
4) Once item is checked in, open your current customer's record and finish check-out procedure.
5) Check shelves for any items remaining on printed list (of patron whose item(s) was/were on the shelf. If you find any remaining items on shelf, pull items and check them in. Waive any fines from client record and insert a note explaining why fines were waived, and if possible for which books, then initial and date the note.
