Action Required: Executive Order 1-50 "Prohibited Workplace Conduct Including Sexual Harassment"

Team –

Recently, the Mayor signed Executive Order 1-50, “Prohibited Workplace Conduct Including Sexual Harassment.” The purpose of the Executive Order is to inform employees that “behavior that is sexually harassing or sexually offensive or that otherwise impairs maintenance of a professional and dignified work environment is expressly prohibited and will not be tolerated.” The executive order is available online at http://www.houstontx.gov/execorders.html

Any employee who believes a violation of Executive Order 1-50 has occurred may pursue informal or formal means of resolution by addressing their concerns with one of the Library Designated Departmental Representatives (DDRs): Ophelia Cespedes, 832-393-1343 or Tim Hardy, 832-393-1339. Complaints may also be presented to the Office of Inspector General directly or by calling the City of Houston Sexual Harassment Hotline at 713-837-9030. A poster containing information for filing a complaint is being forwarded to all HPL facilities for placement on staff bulletin boards.

Please make sure these items are handled by their due dates:

All HPL employees must read Executive Order 1-50, sign the attached acknowledgment form and submit it to their supervisor by Friday, May 21, 2010. The acknowledgment form is also available under HR Forms on Inside HPL https://hplnet.hpl.lib.tx.us/forms/EO_1-50-Acknowledgment.pdf

Managers are asked to confirm each employee under your supervision has read and signed the acknowledgment and must forward all forms to the HPL-HR office by Friday, May 28, 2010.

If you have any questions about the Executive Order, please contact one of HPL’s DDRs listed above.
Thanks,
Edward Melton
