Greetings all,
Please be sure to note all of the changes in the registration policy.
Things to note:
1. Please familiarize yourself with the new applications.
2. For a Powercard, address verification MUST be recent mail, lease agreement, or rent receipt with address.
3. Power card for YOUTH - guardian must prove existence of the youth - by either showing the child or providing government, school or social service paperwork.
4. COMPUTER CARDS – adults must show a photo ID with address to get a computer card. KIDS do not need an ID but they have to provide their name, birth date, & school. DO NOT GIVE COMPUTER CARD # ON PIECES OF PAPER ANY MORE! THEY MUST PURCHASE A NEW CARD FOR $1.00.
5. Offer voter registration cards to all new Power card applicants. Designate on the card application if they Yes-wanted one or No-did not want one.
According to the new policy, we "must offer the opportunity to register to vote to any individual of voting age who applies for a library card or renews a library card." We must make sure that all staff know to offer customers the opportunity to register to vote when issuing or renewing library cards.
Policy 6.2 Registration
Ø The new policy will require a photo identification issued by a government agency, school or social services provider and proof of current address for registration. The photo ID will be used to verify identity, not address.
Ø To receive a Computer Use Only Card, a customer will need to complete a standard registration form. If customer is unwilling or unable to provide full registration information, a non-resident Computer Use only card may be issued when the customer provides their name, their birth date (to avoid duplicate cards), and a photo ID issued by a government agency, school or social services provider.
Ø Voter registration card process language has been added. The new language states that Library staff, if requested by the customer, will accept the completed registration card and place it in the Library’s outgoing mail to assure delivery to the voter registrar no later than the fifth day after the date the application was submitted to library staff.
Policy 6.3 Circulation of Library Materials
Ø The new policy was updated and no longer provides information on videos because videos are no longer purchased by HPL and audiovisual materials can be placed in book drops.
Ø For children under 18 years old, the parent/guardian who signed the registration form may now submit his/her ID in place of a child’s ID in order to checkout a laptop.
Ø Searching for shelf checks at the owning agency will occur for 8 weeks.
Ø The HARLIC card section was removed because HARLIC cards are no longer used.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Justine

Do we have any voter registration cards available to offer to our patrons when they sigh up for a power card? Are they at the desk, in the back closet?
Thanks,
Aaron
