City Security Policy - Badges

HPL:

In September 2010, the City’s Executive Order 1-37: Security on City Premises (attached) was updated in an effort to make City workplaces more secure. The update included strengthening the language requiring employees to wear their City badges. It also clarified the role of GSD Security in enforcing that requirement.

Section 8.4 states, “All City employees…must wear their City of Houston identification badge at ALL times while on City premises….MUST BE DISPLAYED PROMINENTLY, either worn on the outer garment between the waist and shoulder or displayed on the belt at the waist IF THE BADGE IS NOT COVERED by a jacket, coat, sweater, vest, or other garment.”

Section 11.1 states, “The provisions of this directive shall be enforced by security personnel.” This is followed by Section 11.2, which states, “Persons refusing to comply…will be asked to leave the premises.”

The GSD Security Division and their contracted security personnel are enforcing this Executive Order, so please do what you need to do to remind yourself to bring and wear your badge every day. While this requires your repeated attention, it protects all of us (and our property) by keeping unauthorized personnel out of staff areas. It also helps customers identify us so we can serve them.

Thank you for your cooperation.
